i'm moved by music. i'm one of those thirty somethings that needs, craves, pines for a soundtrack to her everyday life. i was just talking w/ my friend brooke yesterday about how i love that you can send music files w/ your gmail emails, and how wonderful it would be to send a "dear john letter" via email w/ a song attached. (note to self: blog idea: songs to accompany those "dear john" emails.) we both laughed w/ glee.
recently i've found the soundtrack for summer; the dodos/dodo bird, beware of the maniacs.
i saw the two piece band play at minnie wilde a few months ago. i walked into the crowded little store on a thursday night and instantly i was overcome w/ emotion by the sound. of course this had nothing to do w/ a recent break-up 2 hrs earlier. no, nothing of the sort. i was just completely moved. they played the song the ball, and it instantly brought tears to my eyes.
it's really hard to make a band/show atmosphere in a clothing store...but everyone around was entranced. it was hard to ignore the thumping drums, which is a main part of the dodos sound along w/ layered harmonies. i hate making comparisons but they're sort of like iron & wine meet the shins who then meet some hippies in a drum circle, eco-hippies mind you and preferably in dolores park because that takes the whole dirty hippie edge down a notch. pheww. i can't stop listening to it on repeat. it's going to be a fine summer after all.
