i can't express enough how much i love flickr. i think it is such
an amazing website and such a dynamic place to meet creative people
from all walks of life.
i often wonder if the folks at flickr had the
foresight of the creative community flickr would become. everyday i
see so many images that had it not been for flickr, i never would have
the opportunity to come across.
over the next couple of days i am going to post a few women's work i
have been fortunate enough to find (along w/ a bunch of other stuff i'm itching to write about!). the first lady i want to share w/
you is a lovely who lives in italy and signs all her paintings 1911.
i am so enamored w/ her paintings. the darkness that she portrays w/
such whimsy is really quite exceptional. as a child i would spend
hours in my mother's art history book looking at the paintings of hieronymus bosch.
i would stare into them pretending i was in there dancing w/ a plum on
my head!
ha! anyway, i was instantly taken w/ 1911's work. it
reminds me a lot of hierony's work(i wonder if that was his nickname?
"hey hierony! you've got a great hieny!" omg, i can't believe i just
typed that out loud.).
the odd characters, the vibrant hints of colors, the eery subjects all feel like they come from a different time.
another detail i love about her work is the way she names them. the titles tell a story in and of them selves. names like "do consider me", "stop telling other people i'm not a magician" and "summer you're killing me" really draw me to her work. in fact i the name of this post comes from the very last painting you see below, i just loved the it that much.
you can find 1911 on flickr under the name attack el robot or you can check out her absolutely wonderfully quirky blog the good machinery and be re-directed to her etsy store.
