good news!  miss linotte has just opened an etsy shop.  now we don't have to just drool over all the great illustrations we see in bust magazine and else where.  we can pop on over to her shop and purchase such delightful items like badges, a poketo wallet and lil screen printed bags and tags, just to name a few.  how exciting!

miss linotte aka anke weckmann is a german born illustrator who now lives in london.  often her images are usually of sweet youngins, wearing adorable outfits w/ rosy cheeks and stellar footwear.  the kind of sweetheart you want to take home to mom or who instantly becomes your bff.  anke's also known for her illustrations of musicians...peeps like devendra banhart, bjork, sonic youth and many more.  so it's really exciting to be able to own some of her personally made products.

i'm smitten gets a big, fat prize for the best lil' tote w/ the cutest image ever and their doorbell (a-door-bell aka adorable) website w/ the wonderful images of part girl/part animal people.  the music.  the images.  it's all just darling.  ok, i have no prize for i'm smitten.  but i love, love, love that tote and the website.  can't my love just be enough?

what is it about antlers lately?  why are they so magical?  really.  please tell me.  you can check out i'm smitten here.  my christmas list just continues to get longer...

wolves in sheep's clothing, literally.

no matter how many times i see these images i am transfixed, i only wish i could have seen this, dare i say epic installation.  i'm sorry i know the word epic is so over-used, but look at those images.  that is epic. head on, created by chinese artist cai guo-qiang, showed in germany at the deutsche guggenheim in august of 2006.  99 replicated wolves made out of wire, sheeps fur, and plastic and little marbles for eyes.  the exhibit is long over, but i wanted to post these photos anyway, i've always loved them.  they're super intense.  stunning.  and well, that's just what i want to post right now.  and i do what i want.

maxwell loren holyoke-hirsch.  what a wonderful name.  it conjures up twigs, smoking chimneys and far off lands and little pixies flying in the woods.  as does maxwell's work.  it has a magical quality to it that draws one in.  his prints and drawings are of images of another time it seems.  crookedly shaped men w/ black noses, swirls and doodles all around them.  rusts, blacks, deep oranges, lime greens and browns.  the palette brings about thoughts of brothers grimm fairy tales.  there is a bit of a dark, slight doomsday quality that comes across in a subtle way in his work, my favorite.

recently maxwell made a fuzzy flocked shirt titles the seeker for the people over at threadless.  you can check out maxwell's lovely work on his website, flickr or his blog.  at the moment, the above limited edition print, siddhartha, is being offered in his shop for a mere $20 bucks.  so generous and so talented.  all this and a great name, what a cutie.

katy horan + tiny showcase = burning a hole in my pocket!

i am so excited.  i just spent $23, leaving me w/ $3 dollars left!  YES.  (i now have 2 jobs, yes, 2 count 'em.)  i just bought the tiny showcase, katy horan "healers" print.  i am so delighted.  clearly god was on my side tonight as these prints fly of the proverbial shelves over at tiny showcase!

i was reminded of tiny showcase through the great blog creature comforts.  i discovered katy horan, who has quickly become one of my favorite artists, through one of my favorite blogs, slow progress.  and now i have purchased a great print, all thanks to the world wide intra web and the wonderful community of the blogosphere.  it's all come full circle.  who cares if i will be eating pb & j til payday, i'll rest easy tonight knowing i did a wee bit of good by shelling out $23 bucks, a portion of the proceeds go to to global green rebuliding of new orleans.

if you aren't aware of tiny showcase you should most definitely check the site out.  each week they offer up limited edition prints and the artist chosen that week chooses a charity of their choice.  that way you can help out and get great affordable art in the process.  do it.  i bet there is still time to get katy's print!  hurry.
