when i first saw simon redekop's painting, this place is dope, i laughed out loud. i can't ever get enough irreverence in my art intake, especially if it's done well and slick. which as you can see, simon's work is nothing less. take his image nother day at the office, the subject relaxes on a blankie while heaps of trash, bottles, and cosmetics lay behind him like it ain't no bother. i love this image. although i try and stay away from comparing artists, i do have to say chuck close comes to mind w/ simon's technique in this painting. of course his overall approach isn't like close's, but there is something about the swirls and outlines of the bright colors that bring the comparison to mind. but hell i'm just a blogger...and by god, i did just type that outloud. anyhooha, simon's work is dope. check out his website for a gallery view of his last opening down at the boonedocks at the jeffery boone gallery. you can also buy some of awesome zine's at cafe royal.
