cris from tinlark gave me a heads up about an upcoming show, spring loaded w/ new work by nancy baker cahill. i was immediately intrigued when cris told me a bit about nancy's work: a group of paintings entitled jonbenet lambsey addressing "the injury we visit upon our most vulnerable citizens when we prematurely force them into an adult world of fetishistic desire". the combination of lamb and beauty is pretty brilliant, it's hard to not make the comparison of those little lambys going to slaughter.

nancy has also explored the machismo world of target range shooting. on show are targets of nancy, herself, which she practiced shooting at, taking back the night as it were. sounds like a great show.  the show opens april 12th.

loyalty & blood.

first we had birds, then deer, then horses, then owls...all as the latest animal de rigueur.  well, i'm calling it now.  wolves.  yep, wolves are next.  i'm just saying.  i may be wrong...but i for one, want to kick off the craze w/ this rad tote bag by loyalty & blood.  but, i don't really want to stop there either i want to add some hawks in the picture w/ L&B's olive hoodie.  perhaps i need some layering, how about the spiral tee?  oh, and don't get me started on the osprey mirrored earrings they've got. seriously, i'm dying for payday over here. well, regardless of my fashion quandry check out loyalty & blood's etsy shop.  they've got a little chicness of everything for all animal lovers.

maya hayuk: just good vibes.

one of my my favorite shops in sf is needles & pens.  they've really grown over the yrs, moving from their 14th street location to where they are now on 16th street in the mission.  they always have great books, zines, lots of awesome jewelry and many DIY items.  i bought some buttons, a cute little owl patch (which i ended up melting cause i didn't read the directions. :( poo. ) and my very favorite book of the moment maya hayuk's just good vibes.  it's a beautiful book, and for 20 clams it's so worth it.  i've had it in my backpack since i got back from sf.  here are some of my favorite images.

amy ross.

amy ross paints and collages beautiful images of animals and nature morphed together. ducks, quail and bunnies sprouting softly from pink magnolia petals. she-wolves howling like it's just an average day. mushroom birds hanging in the trees. amy's hybrids of beast and flora come over naturally. her work is seamless.

a few things amy has going on...if you are in the north west, amy has a show opening this thursday at punch gallery in seattle. the lovely folks over at keep calm will have the print below available. and on a daily basis be sure to check out amy's daily musings on her blog about her work, her daughter and her life as an artist.

forestbound.

loving this print and pouch from forestbound over on etsy.  the print just speaks to my belief that one can never have too much hope.  and as for the pouch, well a girl can't ever have enough vessels to hold things either!  i'm a big fan of corduroy.  i just love it.  in fact one of the biggest things i miss about not living in sf any more is that i will no longer be able to wear corduroy skirts all yr round.  ahhh, problems.  forestbound uses all reclaimed materials w/in her work.  i love how her style is rustic w/ an edge to it.  a nice break from classic w/ a twist.  so cute.
