kris chau.

kris chau's talk story opens this friday at rowan morrison. a native of hawaii, the cuteness and talent that is kris chau named this show "talk story" which is a phrase taken from hawaiian pigeon which loosely means "shooting the shit" or a convo between friends. kris sent of over some images for the show. as usual the images are rife w/ her beautiful girls, in all states of array looking as lovely as can be. one of the many things i love about kris' work is that her ladies are all different shapes and sizes, and yet they're still sexy as hell. love that.

my love for you is 1 yr old today.

today the blog turns one year old. working on the blog this past year has been so exciting and rewarding. i have met so many talented, creative and above all super kind folks. i want to thank each and every one of you for coming by, leaving comments, sending me emails and just being here, w/out you the blog would not exist...or it would but it would be kind of boring on this end.

i started the blog because i love to network and find out about new stuff and turn people on to new things. the blog has gone above and beyond my expectations. it's gained it's own life force and literally has started to steer me. i'm really looking forward to this year and what the blog continues to become. so thank you for being a part of this journey, it has meant so much to me.

p.s. i get my laptop back on thursday and posts will resume back to normal. i can't wait!

sneak peek: yellena james.

yellena james' show periphery opens this saturday, june 21st at giant robot sf. like the name suggests yellena's new body of work is inspired by beauty just outside one's point of vision. only fitting, yellena sent over some sneak peek detail shots for the blog. she's so smart. just looking at these little bits, i can only imagine how gorg the full pieces are going to be. if you can't make it to the show, you can always check out yellena's site for her blog, work and etsy store. p.s. yellena will be in attendance at the opening.
 

justin richel.

i wrote about justin richel's love bird print available at little paper planes a while back. as soon as i saw it i just loved it. completely. the detail and color was really different from what i had been seeing lately and it was a welcome departure. faythe from paper boat gallery sent me a link today jostling my memory of justin's work. as i looked over his flickr sets, his vivid gouache paintings w/ their topsy-turvy-ness brought to mind images i would conjure up as a child reading mrs. piggle wiggle books. (did you ever read those books? they were sooo good.) well perhaps, not as refined and beautiful as justin's work, but you get what i mean. justin's work transcends a fairytale quality, that's rather grown up but in no way all stuffy pants, allowing us to still have some fun. check out his talking and suspicious paintings they're clever and funny and totes affordable. check his etsy shop for more.

justin has a few shows coming up (a solo one that just ended at galerie voss düsseldorf in germany), "drawn from maine" a group show at nancy margolis gallery, curated by bruce brown. July 10 - August 16 2008 and a group show at ken jones jr. fine art titled “movin’ on up!” in july.

bill dunlap.

bill dunlap has a ton going on besides ridding his studio of bats, wondering about the greater good and chatting w/ his cat's here's just the short list of what's up w/ bill: images in the new apenest, as well as hot & cold, drawings in a coloring book organized by charles glaubitz (all profits will be donated to tijuana orphanages), gemini gel studios is releasing limited editions of three of his paintings, and he has a collaborative show coming up w/ timothy buckwalter in LA that bill is especially stoked about. wow. that was one seriously long run on sentance, good thing i have no editor. check out bill's website where you can comb it for more info and see his incredible work, it's extra chock full. it's a real treat. i'm personally loving an old website of his 'hell is other people'. so, after all of that news isn't bill's work just rad?
