as the summer starts to wind down, i find myself getting wistful for cable knit tights, cute dresses and my many a vintage jacket i have stored away like a squirrel w/ her nuts. but i'm a finicky squirrel and although i long for the whispery winds of the something wicked this way comes late september winds...i'm just not ready to say good bye to one of the best summers i have ever had. looking at rachel sumpter's gouache paintings resonate these feelings even more. her depictions of summer fun activities and cozy winter scenarios make it hard to want to leave one season for another when they look this good. perhaps the only way to suffice, is to just stare a bit longer at these beautifully subtle scenes. just a little bit longer...and try and find a nice middle ground. rachel is part of a group show at the hosleft gallery opening september 6th in san francisco.
