michael swaney.
michael swaney's show whitehorse, yellowknife, red deer opens tomorrow september 4th (wow, it's the 4th already!) at atelier gallery in vancouver. it was so hard picking out what images to post on the blog, each piece is incredible. michael works in many different mediums often layering his work w/ paint and found paper and whatever else he sees fit:
"as an artist, i'm interested in the relics of our consumerist society found in garbage bins, junk days and grandparent's attics. the stained and discolored papers are manifestations of different geographical locations, of individual waste and thereby they hold a unique, impossible historical element which is of great value to me. by appropriating these pieces and re-contextualizing them within my work, they gain a new aesthetic quality without losing their original aura."
whitehorse, yellowknife, red deer looks epic, with over 25 pieces on display it should be an amazing show.

Ha Ha! Now I feel like singing! (I mean, nice things here on this site.)
