Lisa Congdon sent over a sneak peek of work that will be on display in her show Love Me Not: A Valentines Show.
In Love Me Not, I explore both the traditional decor and subject matter
of Valentines from the Victorian Era (now nearly obsolete), along with
common Valentines sentiments and proclamations. In some cases I have
taken the gaudy decoration and purposefully toned it down to be more
austere to play with the viewers sensibilities. The pieces are intended
to be interpreted by each viewer however he likes depending on his
level of cynicism. The show features 12 shadowboxes, drawings and
gouache paintings.
The saying "Forever More", never seemed so beautiful and bittersweet to me. Love Me Not opens on Thursday at The Bell Jar in San Francisco.

This Friday at Cinder's Gallery in Brooklyn Maya Hayuk's Sexy Gazebo opens. Cinder's just sent over some images from the show to share with the blog. True to form Maya's new work is bursting and dripping with color. This is a perfect show for the middle of February...
Stepping into Sexy Gazebo, a new installation by Brooklyn-based artist Maya Hayuk, is like putting on kaleidoscope glasses and walking down a warm plant-filled tunnel towards a fireworks show of radiantly bright neon-colored Rorschach tests that emit a healing glow on its viewers. Bold, vivid colors flow effortlessly into each other to create symmetrical abstract works of power on paper, wood and on the walls of the gallery. Interwoven into these abstractions are traces of textiles, body orifices, time travel, macramé, totem poles, holograms and Maya's own Ukrainian heritage. Fearless and intricate line work explode into self-invented mandalas, pushing, pulling and dripping into one another and joyfully dragging us into the void, Maya's void, a place where love triumphs over evil, guitar solos ring out endlessly, cactuses wear ray bans, and believing is BELIEVING.

Pumpkin Tattoo in Jamaica Plain has the work of Tony Bevilacqua showing at the moment. Tony has a wide range of work up from uber-adorable paintings of animals to sharp saturated screen prints. (His work is really affordable too.) I've definitely got my eye on that wolf like dog. Not all the work you see here is in the show, but I couldn't help myself...I had to get at least one of his etchings in. Check out his website to see more work. At the moment Tony concentrates most of his time on his furniture company he runs with his fiance; Chroma Lab. Stay tuned for a studio visit with Tony in the coming weeks.
