Josie Morway.

My friend Evoker recently turned my attention to his friend Josie Morway. I have to tell you, nothing gets me more stoked than when I meet (or in this case e-meet) artists that are dynamic within their work. Meaning they have no limitations around the boundaries of what they will work on, everything looks like a canvas to them. Josie is a perfect example of this, she not only traditionally paints, but also has ventured into the world of lettering and pinstriping on bikes and cars. Josie sent a bunch of images to show us her work. Most is pretty self-explanatory, but the rectangular, pinstriped shape is a VW glove box cover, and the bike photos are of her lettering and pinstriping for Circle A Cycles. RAD. Keep an eye out for Josie at CRAFTLAND this holiday season.

Olivia Jeffries.

Olivia Jeffries had a piece in the show I curated at Needles + Pen's, You've Got Light In Your Eyes in May. I obviously asked her because I really love her work. As I walked my dog tonight and thought about what I would say in this post, it occurred to me I have no idea how to describe Olivia's work in a quick, succinct way. But I am going to give it a shot: Olivia uses old, often stained found ephemera to paint and draw on, then applies these amazing, ghost like but very current images. She combines both worlds effortlessly as if they always belonged together, often incorporating the scribbles and left over handwriting within the pieces themselves. Her use of white is phenomenal. Ok, I think that's a good description! Check out her latest foray into zine making. Gorgeous.

Clifton Burt X 20x200: Think-Make-Think.

It is ideas like this that make me delighted to be alive. Clifton Burt's Think-Make-Think second edition over 20x200. Creative, warm fuzzies all around.

"In April of 2007, John Maeda quietly posted a haiku he had written to his blog. It was entitled think-make-think, and to me it fulfilled the potential of Maeda's simplicity. Over the next few months, that haiku often found its way to the forefront of my mind. When our studio acquired the remnants of a discarded arrow sign, it was clear to me that think-make-think was a perfect fit, both in form and function."

A few months ago the guys from Bodega asked me to put together a show at their space, 4th Wall Project for the end of October. I am in the process of getting everything together so I thought I'd give you guys a little sneak peek of what's in the show. The artists have been working hard, and I'm super excited for the show. I can't keep it under wraps anymore...

NONE MORE BLACK, which opens on October 23rd, 7pm-9pm at 4th wall, will show all new work from Tony Bevilacqua, Chad Chesko, Bill Dunlap and Elisabeth Timpone. Besides the fact that I am a big fan of each of these artists, I chose them for the subject matter that they focus on. Tony, Chad, Bill and Elisabeth all focus on life, death, rebirth and metamorphosis in their work. Reinterpreting these subjects in their own unique way with the use of intense color or the absence of, each artist addresses the subject beautifully.
