Flaunt Magazine: Tracey Emin & Others.

I remember in the 90's when Tracey Emin's piece "Everybody I Have Ever Slept With", a tent quilted with every person's name she had ever had some sort of involvement with, hit the art world. I thought it so brilliant. Finally an artist I could finally relate to. She took conceptual thought and married it with old school quilting. She spoke to me and for me. She represented a void I was looking for. Tracey Emin was doing some effed up shizz and completely getting away with it. Not only were her pieces thoughtful, they were overflowing with emotion that was tangible, tactile. Her work continues to move me, to school me in ways I never believed art could exist.

Flaunt Magazine recently interviewed Ms. Emin, among others for a six part piece entitled The Collected: A Global Survey of Six Contemporary Artists in issue #107. It's a thoughtful interview, displaying the artist in a much softer light than past interviews have. Which is a relief. I often wonder, as I know many people do, how her work would be received if she were a man. There is a ton of great art in the issue overall including more interviews and features of Jim Shaw, Diana Al-Hadid, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Yinka Shonibare and Assume Vivid Astro Focus.
