I was first introduced to Alexis MacKenzie's work last month at the second show of Guerrero Gallery's here in SF. Her lithograph like collages are gorgeous, spelling out words, that if you don't look closely enough one can miss. Alexis' natural typography seems as if it's been plucked from another era. Haunting and beautiful. Alexis has a few shows coming up, check out her selected exhibitions to find out where you can see her thoughtful work.
Lena Wolff's cut and pin pricked collages seem so palatable to me today on this rainy gray day. Her choice of color and subject woo's me. Lena shared these images with me yesterday and I'll soon be seeing them at the SF Art Fair next weekend. Check out Lena's, her partner's and their daughter's etsy shop, Klein Family where they sell a whole myriad of handmade goodness including handcut prints, stickers and labels.
Cut To The Chase opens tonight at Show & Tell Gallery with Greg Lamarche's beautifully, bold cut collages that combine his sense of wicked sense of color and wit. All cut from vintage paper, some of which took years to collect, Greg fades the lines between graphic design, collage and graffiti offering up a slice and diced sweet version of fine art.
Lots of beautiful new work in Brandi Strickland's recently overhauled website and shop, Paper Whistle. Her compositions are always stunning. She has a way with placement, that girl does. There's not only lots of new work to oogle over, but Brandi's prints are now available in 12x12 format. The bigger to oogle at! Check out her newest series Inner Space. Ahhh, her work makes me want to go hang out at summer camp and lay in the grass and stare at the stars. Spring is almost here!
Lena Wolff recently sent me a bunch of images of her gorgeous, spherical and symbolic collage/paintings from her latest solo show Gatherings, at Traywick Gallery. Lena has an incredible way of reinterpreting traditional folk and textile art, translating her vision into alluring compositions. Her work reminds me of quilts from another world transformed into paintings. Lena uses paint, paper cut outs and physically manipulates the surface of paper to create what you see here. Beautiful.
