Nigel Peake: Postal Tags.

Nigel Peake just put a bunch of new drawn on postal tags in his Big Cartel shop, Second Street. I'd be well pleased to have one on these bad larry's on my wall in a sweet little frame. Something tells me you would too. Don't wait to long, these guys never last long in his shop.

It's Nice That Zine: If Drawings Were Photographs.

Well, it had to happen. And THANK GOD it has. It's Nice That has finally released their very first zine, If Drawings Were Photographs. And judging by what I have seen it couldn't be any better as their first kick off. Billed simply as - "Tom gave drawings to Rob and Rob tried to make them into photographs." Brilliant. I laughed out loud after reading that. How fun. Purchase the brand new baby here.

 

 

Ashley Lande X Pac Sun.

Ashley just gave me a heads up about the t-shirt she just did with Pac Sun. Ummmmm, it's AH-mazing. I actually met Ashley through the blog when she reached out and sent me an email awhile back. She is a true gem. Her drawing is like nothing I have seen, with an attention to detail that is just sick. She's got talent for miles. I am completely wild about her psychedelic style. I hit add to cart immediately.

Lizzy Stewart.

I got home yesterday afternoon from my daily sniff, otherwise known as a geriatric walk for my 13 year old pitbull, to a very, pleasant postal surprise. Waiting for me was a thick envelope from Lizzy Stewart. To be expected, the package was full of awesome. I am such a huge fan of Lizzy's drawing, so I was pretty stoked. Lizzy's line work is delicate and feather like. Her style is truly her own.

I asked Lizzy to tell me a little bit about the zines she enclosed, Dead Landscapes and Ladies,:

"'Dead Landscapes' was based around a quote from a short story a friend of mine wrote 'they loved the landscape to death'. It sort of inspired me to use natural elements to tell the story of the breakdown of a relationship...i'm not sure how it comes across but to me it its a sort of bleak look at how this (fictional) couple gradually lost love in these bleak places...'Ladies' is rather more simple. I just wanted to draw a load of vintage hotties!"

Alex Lukas at Glowlab

Just a quick note -

Jacqueline Bos' Icy Mitts.

Well, it had to happen. I unpacked my dog, Seamus' fleece jacket today. Definite sign that it is getting colder. Speaking of cold, check out these icy oven mitts designed by Jacqueline Bos. Hell I'd wear these as regular gloves! Well maybe not...but they sure are cute. Toasty!

Carson Ellis Work Available at Nationale.

The very first thing that drew me to the band The Decemberists were the illustrations on their first album Castaways and Cutouts by Carson Ellis. The scratchy, old-timey drawings seemed so epic and full of stories. I was taken immediately, then of course the band blew me away. I'm not sure I would have picked up that album if it hadn't been for Carson's drawings. Her work, the bands style and the lyrics go hand in hand (no surprise as Carson is married to front man Collin Meloy), the whole package in and of itself is pretty amazing. (I saw the band on tour in 2004 at Bottom of the Hill in SF and scored a cute t-shirt with a bicycle drawn by Carson.) Nationale has original work of Carson's right now for sale. Oh what I wouldn't do to have an original. Just look at how beautiful these are. See more here.

 

 

 

Olivia Jeffries.

Olivia Jeffries had a piece in the show I curated at Needles + Pen's, You've Got Light In Your Eyes in May. I obviously asked her because I really love her work. As I walked my dog tonight and thought about what I would say in this post, it occurred to me I have no idea how to describe Olivia's work in a quick, succinct way. But I am going to give it a shot: Olivia uses old, often stained found ephemera to paint and draw on, then applies these amazing, ghost like but very current images. She combines both worlds effortlessly as if they always belonged together, often incorporating the scribbles and left over handwriting within the pieces themselves. Her use of white is phenomenal. Ok, I think that's a good description! Check out her latest foray into zine making. Gorgeous.

Devin Troy Strother.

Devin Troy Strother just sent me a link to his website and MAN, I was blown away. His smorgasbord of acrylic paint, colored pencils, cel vinyl, silk screen on cut paper is a cacophony of beauty, race, emotion and just plain radness. Wow.

Souther Salazar's Brand New Etsy Shop!

Souther Salazar just opened the cyber doors to his etsy shop and it's PACKED! Souther is stocking it full of everything from prints to doodles on envelopes and napkins. He's finding stuff all over his studio and is posting it as he sees fit. He mentioned to me that he likes the idea of being able to sell drawings for .75 cents. Uhh, yeah we do too! And shizzzz is selling quick, I just tried to buy the sugar packet...and even though it was in my cart; POOF. So keep your eyes peeled on his shop, hit 'add to cart' and pray for no whammies!

Lisa Romero.

Lisa Romero sent me a print a while back with a bunch of goodies. The package, like her paintings was adorable, I almost didn't want to open it. Before I offer the give-a-way, I wanted to post some of my favorites of Lisa's work and shots of her studio. It was super hard to choose, so be sure to check out her flickr as well. The girl's talent through and through.

New Banner by Ashkahn Shahparnia.

Ashkahn Shahparnia just made the above kick ass banner for the blog. I got the email while I was on a super, huge ass bike ride that I somehow got duped into. (And yes, I am that type of person that I check my email like a sickness, so it seemed neither strange nor wrong for me to pull over when I needed an excuse to try and catch my breath.) I was sooo stoked when I saw the image! I knew I'd get something special from him when he asked if he could do a banner, but I was beyond delighted when I saw it. Not to mention totally honored. I have posted about his work before, but in case you aren't famil' take a minute. Ashkahn is hilarious, everything he does always gives me a good hoot and holler. Take his Evolution of the Muff tote bag for instance, need it, want it.

After looking through Nick Lu's awesome drawings, I stumbled upon his etsy shop. It occurred to me that I need one of his tote bags to add to the other 47 totes I have hanging on my doorknob. Which I guess could also read like I need another hole in my head but a girl needs options, and with killer drawings and designs (not to mention price) I'm pretty sure Nick's totes are gonna leave all the others in their wake.
