New Blanket Magazine.

A new Blanket magazine is now available on line. SO much good stuff in there. Our buddy Will Bryant designed the cover and talks about his creativity, Betsy Walton is interviewed, 1000 journals and Post Secret are covered. Oh, and I chat about the blog a wee bit in there with other awesome peeps, like Amy Ng of Pikaland. If you don't know about Blanket, get on it right here.

Forest is a multi-purpose design studio from LA that is involved in many great publications. How great? Well, they previously published The Drama magazine, and now act as art director for Anthem magazine, comics editor for Swindle mag, and conduct interviews for Faesthetic mag. 

 

Besides magazines, they also publish The Small Book Series that's just down right awesome.  

 

Forest doesn't just stick to publications either. They have shown in galleries such as Sumbliminal Projects, New Image Art, Lump, Okay Mountain, LittleBird, Thanky Space, ADA, and Quirk.

The latest issue of Mankind Mag was just released yesterday (look at how beautiful Breanne Trammell is)...Erin from Design for Mankind has outdone herself again. This issue is all about being friends, as in Let's Just Be Friends...it's not you it's me, kind of friends. Awwww! Erin over at Design for Mankind asked me to be a part of the brand new re-launch/branding of her pdf mag Mankind Mag. It's chocked full of inspiration, wonderful photographs, art and eye candy. I'll be putting together a monthly play list for Mankind. I'm so excited!

i am blaring edge of seventeen by stevie nicks as i write this post, it just has to be done. stevie is a style icon whom i just never seem to outgrow. looking at my friend's liz and aidan etsy store featherwitch it's hard to not want to blare stevie and braid feathers into my hair. i love the intro on featherwitch's page:

"crafted with love by a couple that spends too much time doing their hair and listening to fleetwood mac."

so good. featherwitch makes earrings, medicine pouches, headbands, haircharms and necklaces that are totally affordable for city dwelling bohemian or calico country mice types like you and me. with names like "witchy woman", "tiny dancer", and "dear prudence" i can't help but want every single piece. check out this month's BUST fashion spread featherwitch is all over it...and goddang those girls look hotttttttttt.

mankind mag: issue 4!

the ever adorable and super blogger erin loechner just released issue 4 of mankind mag. this issue is titled feets & feats, featuring proudest accomplishments and pairs them with footsteps from today's greatest artists, designers and all around well rounded, grounded human beings. awww, we love those kind! you can purchase a copy here or go to design for mankind and download a copy. the mag looks awesome and as usual anything erin touches: inspirational! check out that cover! drawn by will bryant (mine, your's and our favorite.)

i mentioned a little while back that i was asked to interview hannah stouffer for the twenty 2wo blog pdf magazine. well! it's been launched and you guys can check it out and download it here. i'm really pleased w/ how well the magazine came out, adam did an amazing job. i'm really honored that he asked me to be a part of it! hannah sent me some goodies (two rad totes and little bits!) so to get you all excited about the twenty 2wo magazine and the interview, i'm going to give them away to the two lucky commenters. you know the drill, leave a comment and i'll pick the winner on wednesday! yay! hurry before i decide to keep one for myself, i LOVE the 18k jungle tote bag but the featherweight tote is just as sweet!

i don't think i've shouted enough about my love for ruby mag.  i could go on and on, but i will spare you...plus i know you guys have to get to your  superbowl parties.  GO PATS!  i first saw hillery sproatt's work on the latest issue of ruby.  i fell in love w/ her simply written piece, smitten.  god, how cute and sincere.  for something so small i think it has so much depth.  i love it.  it reminds me of earnest bathroom graffiti.  just out there for the world to acknowledge, take it in, smile, move on, and the word smitten will forever be emblazoned on their brain.  hillery's work is a lot like this.  small in measure, but beautifully and subtly done.  and yet it sticks w/ you as you carry on.  see more on hillery's website or check out ruby's issue 25.

a laugh a day keeps the dr. away...err, or is it an apple?  hmmm, well, irregardless (that's how we do it here in ol' beantown) let's just keep that m.d. at bay shall we?  so let's go w/ the humor adage.  andy rementer helps me w/ some chuckles that's for sure.  the images you see here, which i personally think are HIGH-larious, are from a piece andy did for the artist's guide to making money.  it's packed full of talent and is a must have.  for more hilarity from andy check out techno tuesday, andy's comic strip.  a brand new one appears every tuesday on the web.  it's like magic.

chalk another one up for the information super highway.  ruby mag issue 25 just landed on the doorstep of my gmail inbox.  can we talk about how awesome ruby is?  please?  i'm a big fan and i'd like it if you were too, that is if you aren't already.  it'll make me feel way more complete if you join me in my intra-web addiction over here.  i mean, if it were not for ruby, i may not know about jeff depner. 

jeff is in the latest issue of ruby.  i was immediately taken w/ his paintings.  his use of shape and color is awesome.  not to mention he seems to have a way w/ a camera as well.  jeff has a show coming up in march at the jeffrey boone gallery in vancouver.  i'm excited to see more of his work.  since yesterday, he has already added a new painting...

we ARE the IMAGE makers interview: kareena zerefos.

we are so lucky to have the amount of resources we do at our fingertips.  cereal.  the information super highway just gets bigger and bigger...sometimes i feel like i never even need to leave this little cozy rock i live under.  i just got issue 14 of [weAREtheIMAGEmakers] in my inbox yesterday.  [wAtIm] gear up for their all female show aptly titled GRRRLS in february at ambush gallery.  in preparation they have released this issue that is overflowing w/ art from many a lady from downunder.

i was really taken w/ the work of kareena zerefos.  there is a nice little interview you should check out w/ her in this issue.  kareena's work is really beautiful w/ it's subtle tea stain like palette.  often drawing and painting birds, girls and children and their imaginary friends, her work is very inviting.  she currently is in the middle of constructing her new website , but you can still see her old one here.  kareena will be part of GRRRLS.

hapy birthday ruby mag!

ruby mag is 2 yrs old!  happy birthday ruby!  i am constantly amazed by each issue of ruby.  very issue is brimming and overflowing w/ great showcases on artists from all over the world working in many different mediums.  w/ each issue i am introduced to new artists as well as some old favs w/ new work.  if you haven't subscribed to there free web magazine, you should do it right now.  because i'll be the first to say so...you are missing the bus.

this issue doesn't disappoint, there are photos and sculptures and drawings of mermen and narwhales.  that's right i said narwhales.  what are you waiting for?  go!

giant robot biennale: 50 issues.

giant robot is celebrating their 50th issue of their bi-monthly magazine this month.  what started out as a 'zine back in 1994 has now grown to a dynamic and creative force w/in the art community.  giant robot has always been a champion for new and upcoming artists.  one of my favorite things to do when living in san francisco was to go to their store and pour over all of the great books they stock, many of which they help to publish.

to celebrate their 50th issue, eric nakmura owner, editor, curator, restauranteur, blogger and super all around  renaissance man, has collaborated w/ the japanese american national museum to kick off the museum's new series salon pop; giant robot biennale: 50 issues.  the exhibit will have work from david choe, souther salazar, saelee oh, adrian tomine to name a few.  the exhibit opens tomorrow w/ a reception starting at 6pm - 10pm, and runs through january 13 2008.  you can find out more info here.

i know, we all spend too much time online.  or i do at least.  but i'm okay w/ it.  really.  thanks to irana douer i will be spending lots more time here on the world wide intra webby.  her online magazine ruby, issue number 22 is out.  per usual it's chocked full of great images and amazing artists.  this issue has, again as normal, a wide range of artists dabbling in all different sorts of media.  i'll be spending the next couple days pouring over the artists irana has brought together for this issue.  won't you join me, virtually?  come.  it will be fun.
