New Work: Acorn.

I'm really loving Acorn's latest work. His delicate line work of a land far away is totally some place I'd love to camp and stay awhile. Acorn is currently in a show, Never Ending Master Quest with Ghostpatrol and Miso at Gorker Gallery. He's busy working on getting his website up and as soon as it's live we'll give you a heads up for sure. Until then let's just hang around his flickr page a little longer...

Lena Wolff: Gatherings.

Lena Wolff recently sent me a bunch of images of her gorgeous, spherical and symbolic collage/paintings from her latest solo show Gatherings, at Traywick Gallery. Lena has an incredible way of reinterpreting traditional folk and textile art, translating her vision into alluring compositions. Her work reminds me of quilts from another world transformed into paintings. Lena uses paint, paper cut outs and physically manipulates the surface of paper to create what you see here. Beautiful.

 
 

Dan-ah Kim: Daughters of the Blue Sky.

Dan-ah Kim sent over images of work from her latest show, Daughters of the Blue Sky, at Metropolis Gallery. They're so beautiful on my laptop, I can only imagine what they look like in person. Dan-ah has an incredible understanding of space in her work, her latest work uses negative space in such a great, dynamic way. Check out this great interview with her on Juxtapoz with Andrew Michael Ford. Daughters of the Blue Sky closes October 31st. Maybe Forever.

Sean Morris and Sarah McNeil have joined forces via the internet and in person for their upcoming show Maybe Forever. An exploration into people's spiritual beliefs surrounding wanting to live forever, Sean and Sarah have captured the humorous and at times dark sides of people's fear around mortality. The show opens this Friday, October 2nd at Hibbleton Gallery in Fullerton, Ca.

New Work: Matthew Dent.

Matthew Dent recently updated his website with new personal work and commissions. Lots of color, swirly bits, t-shirt designs and prints that I am totally jealous I am not wearing or owning right now. What gives Matt?!

New Work from Elbow Toe.

Every time my friend Elbow-Toe sends me images of his new work, I just sit back and gasp "Goddamnitall". I'm not even joking I have chat transcripts to prove it. Elbow-Toe is by far one of my very favorite artists working today. Not only for his talent, but the sheer tenacity he exhibits in stamina and his process around his work, both street and gallery pieces. From everything to the amount of time he puts into a piece to the references found subtly in his work, he blows me away every time.

New Work: Catherine Ryan.

Here is a bunch of new work by Catherine Ryan. What I really love about Catherine's work is her ability to combine and blend light and dark, resulting in a sort of diffused glow. Such a great way to start a Friday!

New Work by Ashley Lande.

Wow. Ashley Lande is most certainly an artist I am super excited about. She was in You've Got Light In Your Eyes. Her work is incredible. These pieces are for an upcoming show opening in June presented by Jaguar Shoes titled Truth + Magical Love = Freedom. Uh, hell yeah it does. I am lucky enough to have a few pieces of Ashley's work...you should too.

james mitchell aka nas champa.

I've posted James Mitchell aka Nas Champas' work in the past, along with writing about his band The Nurses (whom you should most def check out). I always get really excited when I see James has been up to new stuff, and always hoping his pieces haven't sold yet...His latest stuff has Spring Oh-9 written all over them. christian rex van minnen at roq la rue.

Here are a few images of paintings that Christian van Minnen sent over of pieces in his show Neo-Grotesque at Roq la Rue that opens tonight. Christian captures flora and fauna in a strangely, beautifully and grotesque way. I always love seeing his new work. You can read a Q&A Christian did for the blog here.

john shipman new work.

John Shipman just sent over a few images of his new work. Often concentrating on love and how it interacts and manifests in our lives both mentally and spiritually, John's latest group of work is directly inspired by his wife. Although John pointed out that although she is the muse, there is no direct mention of her...which leaves the images ultimately about the love all around us. brian willmont: new work.

Lots of brand newness going on around here...Brian Willmont (who is also part of the ever amazing, experimental publishing/printmaking project Apenest.) recently sent me images of new work he just completed. Which is rad, as the images you see here aren't even up on his site yet. YES. They're so rich I want to eat them. Ok, that's not true and we both know it...but I am digging his new work for sure (no, surprise). I love the vibrancy and depth in his work. The darkness and brightness seem so apt right now. Brian has a three person show with Eric Shaw and Denise Kupferschmidt at 92yTribeca on February 6th.
