A friend sent me pics of Evan Crankshaw's work that's up at Toscanini's in Cambridge. Although there are only three paintings, this stuff looks INTENSE. I am not familiar with Evan's work, but I sure as hell want to be.

Laughing my ass off at these drawings by Molly Schiot. Wow. She is so brilliant. These were exactly what I needed on a Sunday evening. Besides her drawings, there is a lot of other greatness going on in her website...rad, rad photographs, and well just lots of awesome...I'm too lazy tonight, you go check it out. I'm posting about this show a little late...I know, I know, what gives, but hell I have a life! I can't just be stuck in my apartment all dang day blogging for you fools. Works on Paper at Phyllis Stein Art in LA looks great, one of our favs Cody Hoyt is in it. Along with Cody are the following artists: Cecile Carriere, Mark Danielson, Lisa Hanawalt, Jenny Kanzler, Molly Schiot, Donalee Peden Wesley, Bruce Wilhelm. There are some rad folks in this line up...I'm gonna be posting some of their stuff right this instant.
I first saw Chris Ballantyne's work when he had a solo show at Steven Zevitas earlier this year. His paintings are clean, so clean in fact, I wasn't so sure I liked it at first. Chris' work retains a crystal-clear voice, while avoiding heavy handedness - something all artists risk when we work minimally. What really stands out to me is the work's almost ambivilent attitude towards apocalypse. (See: Alex Lukas)
Chris currently works out of Brooklyn. It looks like he's got quite a few things brewing, so I won't list them here. All of that can be found on his website.
Oh jeez. I am such a sucker for jewelry. This ring by St. Kilda makes me swoon. It's the kind of ring if I owned it, I would only wear that piece of jewelry. It's that gorgeous. I have a few pieces of St. Kilda's jewelry, and each piece is so delicate and unique, but totally holds it's own. I am a big fan for sure. If you get the chance they just opened a shop in Brooklyn. Can't wait to go next time I am down in NYC.
Recently I was contacted on behalf of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's to offer a giveaway on the blog. I have been listening to the new YYY's on repeat since the day I got a copy, so needless to say I am pretty pumped to be able to offer this to you guys. It's Blitz! is seriously the perfect Spring time soundtrack. It's full of intensity that we expect from the YYY's but also a lighter, dreamier side. I can't say enough good stuff about the album. Among the many favs on the album...Heads Will Roll and Hysteric are current repeats on the ipizzle.

"It's Blitz!" was recorded with Nick Launay (producer of YYYs 2007 released "Is Is" EP) and longtime collaborator TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek. The album sessions took the city dwelling band from the snow-covered fields of rural Massachusetts and Long View Studios, to Sitek's Staygold complex in Brooklyn before heading south to a studio in Tornillo in the Texan desert for further confinement and recording. "It's Blitz!" signals both a glance backward and a step forward for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Guitarist Nick Zinner had brought along an old keyboard he bought on eBay to work with during the writing session not expecting it to end up on the album. However, the sounds of the vintage Arp were so right for the new songs that they found their way into the atmospheric washes of "Skeletons", the disco wiggles of "Heads Will Roll", and New Wave melodrama of "Soft Shock". "Obviously, synths have been in rock music forever," Zinner says. "But to us it feels new, which is all we really care about--that excitement."
Oh Man, Book By It's Cover posted pics of Martha Rich's sketchbooks on Monday. It's awesome to be able to get a look inside Martha's sketch book. If you want to be inspired I'd suggest taking a gander.
My good friend Tracy of Happy Owl Glassworks just recently revamped her website. It looks so rad, I don't know what it is about moss and the woods but I always want to break out my barbies and play. NO LIE. Ok, enough of that craziness, I love Tracy's delicate pendants, especially her new woodland series. Don't get me started on her night lights, perfect gift idea. I did a studio visit with Tracy last fall you can check it out here to see her in action.
