New Website: Deedee Cheriel.

I know I'm a nerd when I see an artist has revamped their website and I'm excited about it. Deedee Cheriel recently did so with her's -- adding all of her work, a blog and a shop. I've got my eye on her print "You've Got Everything You Need". Cheriel's in a show at the end of the month at Merry Karnowsky with Femke Hiemstra and Audrey Kawasaki, all three super talented ladies so it's almost a promise it'll be a bang up show. You can see a mini Q&A I did with Cheriel here.

Sneak Peek: Mark Mulroney & Charles Linder at Guerrero Gallery.

This weekend Guerrero Gallery will be hosting a neighborhood BBQ to kick off their next show: Mark Mulroney's Sent Upstate and Charles Linder's Swimmingly, with Watermelons and Referrals. Should be a good, good time even if the sun don't shine -- after all it is summer in July in SF. ;) Andres sent over pictures of a little sneak peek.

Studio Visit: Kevin Earl Taylor.

I took a stroll up to Kevin Earl Taylor's studio yesterday on a sunny Sunday to see his latest group of work. Kevin's got a few shows coming up: first a group show in Berlin in August, and second at Rebekah Jacob Gallery in Charleston, South Carolina in October. I always like visting Kevin's studio -- he's usually got quite a few paintings and work hanging around, in various states of completion. This visit was no different. Each piece looked great. Kevin's also taken on a new craft, engraving. Check out his flasks!

Kevin is working on a few sculptural pieces, this is the first in the beginning stages of progress.

Sneak Peek: Anthony Michael Sneed.

I met up with Anthony Sneed tonight as he got ready for his upcoming show on Saturday, Grand Illusion at The Shooting Gallery. This is Sneed's first solo show in the Bay Area and he's pulling out all the stops. They were in the midst of an interactive installation when I stopped by (which I can't wait to see in action on Saturday night). Sneed took a minute to roll out a few of his paintings for me, as they sat on the sidelines wating to be framed and a few other pieces. 

Grand Illusion opens July 9th and runs through July 30th at The Shooting Gallery.

Sneak Peek & Studio Visit: Lisa Congdon.

Last week, on one of the hottest days we've had in a while I headed over to Lisa Congdon's studio to catch a glimpse of her new work for her upcoming show Boreas, which opens this Saturday at Gallery Hijinks. It was a scorcher for sure but it's always a pleasure to hang out with Lisa. Her studio is chocked full of color, creativity and inspiration.

I thought what Faythe Levine had to say in her written piece for the gallery catalog describes Lisa's work perfectly:

"Observing Congdon’s work over the past several years has been like taking a trip from one fantastical land to another. She revisits themes and palettes, but what is refreshing is her unmatched ability to build an entire world around a themed visual obsession. The work created for Boreas is the perfect example of Congdon’s capacity to do just that, and her rich imagination is contagious." 

Boreas opens this Saturday July 2nd running through July 30th at Gallery Hijinks.
