Logan Hicks X Brooklyn Street Art: New Mural.

Logan Hicks just finished 'Sailor' his largest mural to date with Brooklyn Street Art at Espeis Outside. Inspired by his son, his latest stencil moves away from the urban city-scapes he's known for and moves into newer territory that's closer to home. Dan Witz: Dark Doings at Carmichael Gallery.

The latest work from prolific street artist Dan Witz is at both intense and unreal. It seriously has blown me away. Always one to simultaneously work and play with the natural urban settings around him, Dark Doings is no exception. Dan's work always leaves me feeling inspired and in a state of "holy shit". But this new group, took me to another level entirely. It left me feeling haunted in only the way incredible art can. It also left me unable to look at creepy steel doors the same again. Dark Doings opens tomorrow night at Carmichael Gallery in LA. Should be an incredible show. You can see more on Dan's flickr page.

 

 

Studio Visit with Elbow-Toe.

A few weeks ago I met up with Elbow-Toe at his Brooklyn studio. It was awesome to get to hang out, chat, see where he works and what he's up to. Elbow-Toe's work continues to amaze me with every new piece I see. If you are in Brooklyn this weekend, he's part of the Annual Gowanus Artist Studio Tour so be sure to stop by. But if you are like a good majority of us who do not live in Brooklyn you can enjoy this virtual tour. Check out You Never Wash Up After Yourself, Elbow-Toe's latest paste up to meet the streets. Do I really need to go on about how amazing this is? Wow.

New Street Work: Elbow-Toe.

Elbow-Toe just sent over pics through the electronic mail system of brand new paste ups. This new piece is called The Divine Hammer, inspired by Rembrandt's Monk in the Cornfields. True to form; only Elbow-Toe would imbibe the Dutch Master and bring him to the streets of NYC.

EKTA

 

I stumbled upon the work of EKTA during one of my why-am-I-still-awake internet surfathons. I was instantly drawn in by his rich and decisive color usage, and later, wowed by his straight up sprawling body of work. For the past nine years, EKTA has been based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, primarily focused on street art. He also helps run a nonprofit gallery/studio in Gothenburg called ORO, which is where you can find his studio. What I really love about his work is that even though its subject matter keeps pretty loud and surreal, the pieces maintain an understated quality, eschewing the swagger that's so often deep-seated in things "street".

In November, EKTA will have his next formal exhibition at The Don Gallery in Milan with London-based artist, Dave the Chimp. If you can't afford the ticket, his work can also be admired in a number of publications including: Street Sketchbook, Playground Sweden, and others.

 

New Work from Elbow Toe.

Every time my friend Elbow-Toe sends me images of his new work, I just sit back and gasp "Goddamnitall". I'm not even joking I have chat transcripts to prove it. Elbow-Toe is by far one of my very favorite artists working today. Not only for his talent, but the sheer tenacity he exhibits in stamina and his process around his work, both street and gallery pieces. From everything to the amount of time he puts into a piece to the references found subtly in his work, he blows me away every time.

Eine hits the streets of LA.

Eine has an upcoming show, The A-Z of Change this Thursday at Carmichael Gallery. In preparation for it he's been out and about on the streets of LA, hitting store fronts at night with his signature letters in the bright colors he's known for. WK Interact on Walrus TV.

Walrus TV just released a great video/interview with WK Interact. What I find most exciting about the interview is the conversation between KEO and WK and their discussion on what's ok in getting up and going over. I am always interested to hear people's take on the politics of the street...

Limited edition Other prints.

Honestly, I wouldn't even waste your time reading what I've written as Other's prints will go so fast. But just in case you like to tempt fate...Artist Other moved to NYC recently to work on a hand bound and printed book. It's proved to be a little more scrilla than he expected so to raise funds to finish the book he's printed a short run of prints in three different colors:

Each print is a 12"x13" hand printed, two colored, linoleum cut. Printed on 100% cotton somerset satin paper and signed and numbered, only one hundred are up for sale for $100.00 USD shipping included anywhere in the world.
