i'm in a hurry, getting ready to help out at my friend's store minnie wilde, but i feel it's imperative to stop and write this post.  i'm listening to the new lavender diamond.  it's safe to say that i am completely in love w/ this album.  i found out about this band from the moldy doily.  although i'm in a rush writing this...i think i'm the moldy doily's new SWF.  which only a true SWF would say w/ confidence and pride.  but i don't want to get off track here.  you have to get this album.  or at least listen to it on lavender diamond's website, http://www.lavenderdiamond.com/player.html.  cereal.  go there now.  it's gonna a be a good day today, i can feel it.

i just got st. vincent aka annie clark's debut album marry me .  she's been a member of both sufijan stephen's and polyphronic spree's ensemble.  the album is really diverse.  each song is completely different.  i've been listening to it all day.  so far my favorite songs are now now, marry me and all my stars are aligned.  actually i really like all of the album save but one song.  you can listen to 4 of the songs from the album on her myspace page; http://www.myspace.com/stvincent.  also, she's wearing built by wendy, in the below photo.  as soon as i saw her in it, i was interested, talk about judging a book by it's cover.

as i have expressed a few times since this blog started most days i spend quite a few hours lost on the world wide intra web.  i have sites i look at everyday, juxtapoz, flickr,  numerous blogs (more than numerous actually, dozens...), wooster collective, pitchfork and some i visit every now and then.  i visit them for all sorts of reasons.  mainly to keep up on things i'm interested in...music, art, trends, stuff and junk and things.  it's fun, and at times can be really overwhelming.

mainly i just click through the sites...scanning, skimming, skipping.  i don't stay often, mostly because as i have gotten older i've developed a.d.d (no joke.) and cannot focus for the life of me for too long if i'm not totally interested.  but.  yesterday, i found a blog that i am simply in love w.  it's called the moldy doily.  it's written by the proprietor of the echo park boutique show pony; kime buzzelli.   not only a shop owner, kime is also a wonderful illustrator.  instantly her stuff reminded me of julie verhoeven (who she talks about briefly in one of her blog entrys) meets stevie nicks in a carvan somewhere in a field of incense, pussy willows and mandolins.  her paintings are a dreamscape dripping in color w/ sexy girls in their undies, stuffed animals, foxes and peacocks.  at the moment she is selling a few...ahhh.  someday.

recently she had a show at one of my favorite places to visit on the web, motel gallery.  motel describes kime's work as...

Buzzelli introduces a new series of paintings featuring dreamy and disturbed portraits of girls in delicate and exotic fashions. At once haunting and sublime, these works explore notions of magic, the occult and the mysteries of the woods.  Invested in a vocabulary of desire, nature, witchcraft and superstition, Buzzelli's paintings are essentially dark love poems inhabited by wicked women, wild animals, secret societies, and places of wonder and fear.

her blog is extremely attractive to a girl like me, for many reasons.  the main reason being how dynamic it is.   she writes about everything from cutting edge fashion, ebay finds, great music, artists (as well as her own art), stuff she's selling, to vintage hair clips, craigslist sales and her adorable kitty georgie boy. 

her blog is full of wonderful photos, which always keeps me around and enthralled.  these images range from family photos, old album covers, models, art, happenings...and on and on.  i spent so much time on her blog today, looking at posts about runway photos,  peacock feathers, ebay finds, etc.  i was mesmerized by her style, not just aesthetically but her text as well.  kime has a great way of weaving words together.

looking at her blog i feel inspired and happy.  she is my idea of a classic doyenne.  i try and stay away from phrases like "it girl", but kime is why these titles are around.  her taste is wild and beautiful.  she's clearly a trailblazer.  it's great to see a woman doing so much and clearly living the dream.

"i had a dream i could buy my way to heaven."

my friend julie sent me this link today.  i about died.  three words for you; zach, will, kanye.  all equaling heaven incarnate here on earth.  this is a video of zach galifianakis  and bonnie prince billy aka will oldham lip syncing to kanye west's first single "can't tell me nothing" off his upcomimg album graduation.

i honestly think i will sleep better tonight.  ventures like this make me so happy to be alive, i almost can't stand it.  the collaboration between kanye west and galifianakis is so off the wall and just flat out impressive.  i love when entertainers go beyond the scope of what is expected of them.  zach galifianakis is one of the best comedians around.  (not to mention he has a beard, which in and of itself is just wonderful.)  i'm also a big fan of kanye so...like i said, i can die happy tonight. 

red booties, little swords and colorful tears.

matthew feyld has instantly become one of my favorite artists of late.  his drawings and paintings are whimsical and colorful, yet have a sort of bittersweet under tone, which always appeals to me.  his images remind me of this book that was read to me as a child, but for the life of me i cannot place the name or anything really other than that the main character was a sad boy w/ a pointed head who lived in the woods.  i googled it and everything; pointed head, sad, children's book.  nothing.

feyld's characters are men w/ bulbous heads (w/ beards, i'm a big fan of the beard), bears, rabbits, and birds.  they are usually carrying sticks or swords.  prancing or running in tights w/ little booties, usually red.  his attention to detail is what i really like. there is so much fine detail around the actual faces of the characters, each exhibiting really subtle expressions of hope or sadness.  many of his subjects have colorful tears running down their cheeks, little crosses on their foreheads, lots of detail around the eyes, rays shooting from the booties.  you can see the care and hard work in each and every piece.

"Matthew Feyld, Saskatoon-based artist, is a lad who grew up with a birth defect that made his head swell unbelievably. This happened at the worst times possible: during show and tell, at the science fair, on his first date... It happened from stress. He found that keeping calm helped his head stay normal and drawing, painting, scribbling was his cure. His work is almost voodoo to keep his swollen head from reappearing. It recreates his greatest fears: beady eyed monsters with giant balloon heads fighting off the world in tights."

so cute. funnily enough it just reminds me more of that children's book i cannot seem to remember.

although unemployed, i am saving for a piece of his.  yep.  i'll subsist on beans alone if i have to.
