one of the very first san francisco artists i became aware of when i first moved to sf 7 yrs ago was chris johanson. so i was very excited when i realized his show would be opening at jack hanley while i would be back in sf visiting. below are some photos i took at the opening and later. the opening was crazy, as expected...so i went back to get some better pics.
chris' work is always identifiable by his geometric patterns and use of rich, vibrant color. beyond the beautiful color, one of my favorite details of chris' paintings are his often pregnant, societal, random comments in small, hand lettering.
i was really impressed w/ the amount of work up, and the haphazard maze-like installation. above all the best part of the show was the teeny, tiny peep hole in the wall at the back of the show. when you took a look inside, all you saw was a massive rainbow. a perfect way to end a long ass winter and look forward to changing my clocks back that night! so wonderful.
p.s. my camera died, so some photos are shot w/ my phone. dude, i know. better than nothing though.
