robert hardgrave's work always fascinates me. his use of shape and color is, well, to put it rather un-eloquently, kind of mind blowing. it's easy to get lost in his mesmerizing designs. inspired by disease, recovery, reincarnation and life after death. the first thing that comes to mind when i look at robert's work are the symbols of tibetan thunderbolts. well, i was pretty proud of myself when i made this connection; the above collage is called djore which is the tibetan word for the symbolic thunderbolt, the vajra. i just love stuff like that. robert has a few shows coming up at BLVD and joshua liner gallery, the work in this post will be featured in these shows respectively.

a doppleganger literally means in german to be a "double walker", someone who is acting like or imitating another person. recently aly su borst became somewhat fascinated w/ dopplegangers, leading her to research the possibilities of look-a-likes and what they have come to mean to her. in her latest group of photography, the maladies and treatment of an unkempt mind, aly focuses on women that resemble her and have had similar life experiences. by photographing her "double" she examines a parallel world. in her words: "the real and the imagined forms a discourse that reveals a filmic narrative that is tense and disjointed omitting closer and suggesting a missing whole." i find aly's work both intensely haunting and quietly beautiful. (the last photograph is not part of this group, but i fell in love w/ it and added it anyway...check aly's site for more.)

kent rogowski the brilliance behind bears, has taken another everyday item in our childhood and beyond and turned it inside out and done it his way. wonderful and beautiful.
"Love=Love is a series of puzzle montages. flowers and skies were taken out of over 40 puzzles and combined to form a series of spectacular landscapes. although puzzle pieces are unique and can only fit into one place within a puzzle they are interchangeable within a brand."
Love=Love opens at the jen bekman gallery on may 7th.
