I can't think of a better way to ring in the new year on the blog then with this happy pants rainbow guy from Danny Espinoza. I'm not sure how many of you read Time Magazine on a regular basis, personally my reading of it is usually limited to my times spent in Dr's offices. However this week's issue is worth picking up. In it's Man of The Year issue, in collaboration with Flickr, Time printed 14 pages of Obama inspired images. It's pretty cool to look through and read the inspiration behind the pics. I got the warm fuzzies, for sure. The above image is by San Diego based artist Mike Maxwell and was included in the issue.

Self-taught, Mike is known for his blue-gray hues in many of his paintings, a deliberate process to negate race. His work has a twist of color, often taking the form of laser/prismatic beams. His work is beautiful and rugged. He translates a time gone by beautifully. I love his "Live Free" reference in his painting The Decline of Simple Living, so well put and perfectly placed.

Mike has a lot coming up this year. Many, many shows...some to mention are "Under the Influence" at Gallery 1988, a group show at Sanctuary 143, and two solo shows coming up at San Francisco's The Shooting Gallery and M Modern Gallery in Palm Springs. See more of his work on his flickr page.

I wrote about Tilman Faelker last week, and as I looked through his website I thought the above drawing was a perfect holiday image. A little bit of Merry a little bit of Sass, something I hope we all get this week. I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and a Joyous Festivus! neat-o & silent nights.

This week will probably be super light on posting, as life is all of a sudden INSANE in these parts, but in a very good way. It's the holidays and we all know how momentum seems to pick up and yet slow way down around these times. So you'll probably see more images and less text, and perhaps things I don't normally post about just for kicks.

Like these snow angels for instance. We've got a HUGE storm that has been going since Friday here on the East Coast, my friend Michelle just posted about these rad images fellow blogger 2Pie and his friends made in the snow. They were too special to not post and spread the word about. Super neat. Snow angels for grown ups.

hernán paganini: new stuffs.

The ever talented and adorable Hernán Paganini just sent me a file of these images that I wanted to share with you folks. I love the use of color and shape and plant boxes in his work. I said when I wrote about Hernán before, that I'd love to have one of his boxes in my home, the feelings have not subsided. Besides his talent, what makes Hernán great is he says things like "color hug and fruit salad" as a sign off in emails. Good art and sweet valedictions? The best! I wish I could speak Spanish...Hernán's flickr page is chocked full of info.
