20x200: Youngna Park

I am literally running out the door, but I would be remiss if I did not slap this print up before hand. 20x200 Thursday edition is über-talented photographer Youngna Park, by far one of my favorite up and comers. Her work always sings to me...and on this rainy day I am about to run off into, this print of NYC is a welcome respite. Would love it right over my bed.

Corey Corcoran: Half Life.

 

Local Bostonian and friend Corey Corcoran is showing next Saturday, March 6th here at local gallery fivesevendelle. Corcoran's intensely, layered new batch of paintings resonate feelings between a sneer from an apocalyptical death to a sudden silence after a storm. They are both intense and heartfelt. You can see a studio visit I did with Corey here.

Through paintings, mixed media, and site-specific installation, Corey Corcoran creates dense visual ecosystems.  Using everything from plaster to watercolor, his landscapes teeter on the edge of collapse and fruition.  Half-dead bodies fill these transitory spaces as gods of destruction or biological fodder for its change.  Color, texture, and pattern act as the primordial soup from which the notion of progress and finality may arise.

Julianna Swaney Brooches.

I have been meaning to post about Julianna Swaney's brooches for some time. The combination of her old timey drawings with medal like brooches makes perfect sense. They sit admirably with the grosgrain striped or luscious velvet ribbon, available in many different color ways and ribbon formations. Antiqued and classic, they'd live beautifully on any item of clothing bringing class to the shabbiest of items.

Switch Back Sisters, the above print by Swoon for Paper Monster is layered in beauty and resonates her style to a T. Printed on tea stained paper and signed by the artist. I am in love with everything about it, the colors, the name, the repetition of shapes. Simply put Swoon is wonderful in her technique.
