Allison Sommers' Schlaraffenland.

This Friday at Thinkspace in LA opens Allison Sommer's solo show Schlaraffenland. It is shaping up to be a seriously tight show. All the work looks incredible and definitely narrates the story Allison is trying to achieve: "In these works, I want to engage with the metaphor of Schlaraffenland, the world of plenty, to explore the facets of gross abundance and to complicate what it means to take pleasure in the flesh."

Allison has long been a favorite of mine. Her attention to minutiae is serious. In fact there will be magnifying glasses at the opening this weekend so viewers can get a good look at her work. That should give you a good idea of what we are dealing with. I just love that. Allison did a Process/Inspiration post for the blog in February where she detailed the process of Temple Monkeys, a painting in Schlaraffenland. She talks about her inspiration as well. It's a great view into Allison's fascinating imagination.
