I am so far behind in posts this week, you guys! I feel like that last sentence should have screamed: OH MAI GOD YOU GUISE! Anyhoo, I am working as fast as I can to get up content and there is so much good stuff I want to laugh then scream into my pillow. But with any kind of pressure I always want to just chill out as soon as the pressure is on...so let's just look at these soothing, rad photographs from Andrew Martin Scott, co-owner of Needles + Pens and friend to the blog. Last summer I posted Caitlin Parker's project Let The Outside In, where she built a little house in her backyard and filmed it as the wildlife took over and it decayed. I fell in love with her project immediately, I serioulsy thought as a child if I extended my hands and sang that birds and animals would emerge from the woods. A la Snow White. A little misguided maybe, but I always had a wild (no pun intended) imagination when it came to animals and wildlife. So it makes sense that I would dig her project where she invites animals and the outdoors in.

A year later, Caitlin is currently working on a ten minute film that spans the entire year of the little house and the animals that visited it, which will be shown at Wave Hill in September of 2011. Above is a newer 4 minute vid of her process thus far. In the meantime she is offering prints of her project. Caitlin generously sent me the beaver print titled September 21, 2009. I think it's so adorable and can't wait to hang it. You can see and purchase her prints here.

This is such a great video from the folks over at Gallery Hijinks about Mark Warren Jacques. He talks about falling in love with SF, following his dreams and all the things that inspire him: love, friendship, skateboarding, sunny days and wild nights, art museums and of course plants. ;)

Out & About: Ferris Plock & Jen D'Angelo of Nooworks.

I stopped by Jen D'Angelo's home last night as she and Ferris Plock finished up pulling prints for his show, Fare Thee Well with Deth P. Sun at Giant Robot opening this Saturday in LA. Jen owns Nooworks, one of the cutest boutiques here in SF (I bought this dress from her which I adore.) and it's well known for it's silk-screened goods.

When I got to Jen's place, both Ferris and Jen were working like a well oiled machine. Jen was pulling and Ferris was drying and hanging the pieces. I can't wait to see what Ferris does with the final pieces. Printing was done on paper and wood, Ferris says he'll be adding gold leaf, distressing and color to them. It was great to hang out, laugh and watch the prints form from a glob of paint to one of Ferris' rad little dudes.

Fare Thee Well opens October 2nd and runs through November 3rd, 2010 at Giant Robot in LA.

Studio Visit: Brett Amory.

Brett Amory's solo exhibit, Oakland Anticipations opens at Sandra Lee Gallery here in SF next week, I stopped by his studio to get a peek at what he's been working on. Brett's studio is evenly filled with work in all states of progress. His signature buildings and expressionless people were in various states of formation waiting to come alive. What I like most about Brett's paintings are that it's really difficult to tell the era in which his subjects exist. They could be from the past or the future, yesterday or today you just never know.

Oakland Anticipations opens October 4th, with an opening reception October 7th. It runs through the 30th.
