Devin Troy Strother's show Please Don't Act a Fool in the Club: A Memory of the Sugar Shack & Stuntin Like My Daddy opened this past Saturday at Richard Heller Gallery, in LA. And true to form, Devin hasn't stopped addressing race and identity. Please Don't Act a Fool... was somewhat inspired by Ernie Barnes' iconic painting, Sugar Shack. Some of you may remember it in the closing credits of Good Times (many of you may not ;). Having seen the painting throughout his life, Devin decided to reinterpret it through his own work. However once he embarked upon the project it became obvious that there were many sides that he himself needed to explore. Please Don't Act a Fool...is that exploration.
